Reading Scripture for Sunday Worship

Hello folks-
Reading Scripture for Sunday worship is an opportunity to participate in worship and proclaim the Word through our voices and bodies. We try to live the Word in and through who we are, it can begin by speaking the word aloud in the sacred space of worship where we find ourselves in the presence of God and one another. How are we to proclaim, live and BE the word, if we are not comfortable reading it in the presence of God?  Please sign up with Edie Dixon who has been graciously keeping the sign up list updated. You can click on contacts and send Edie an email. If you need help with pronunciations in the readings, you can search under “listening to the bible”. Here is the link:
God Bless!

Youth Group

Youth Group

We are excited about growing our Youth Group at Holmes UMC. All youth are welcome! Currently, we are participating together with UM youth groups from Poughquag United Methodist Church and Pawling UMC.  The youths gather at Poughquag United Methodist Church, 21 Church Street, Poughquag, New York 12570. We also participate in youth events sponsored by our district and conference United Methodist Youth ministries.

All youth are invited to  engage in the creative and transforming work of God in our lives and in our world through bible study and active participation at worship, service to others, fellowship, and just fun play.

This year our youth participated in mission through the Appalacia Service Project.  Our church continues to support and pray for the communities in Hinton, West Virginia. Our ministries with and for the communities witnessed to the love of God with and for us!

See Photo Gallery for pictures of the event.

Our Youth group is part of  Seeds of ASP

We are called “Seeds of ASP” as we call SouthEast Dutchess County our home. S-E-D transforms into SEeDs as we all grow together to be something greater for God’s purpose.

Sunday School

Welcome to the Holmes United Methodist Sunday School

11:00 A.M. Sunday (September 12 – June)

We are happy to be blessed with a lively Sunday School. Students are welcome from age 3 through 18. Our classes are grouped by age/school grade. Currently we have classes for students from preschool through high school. The teaching staff consists of 5 very experienced teachers.

We start each week in a group circle. In circle we share what has happened in the past week and what we are looking forward to in the next week. After taking collection and prayer we break into classes. In class the children will learn bible stories that are reinforced with a craft or discussion. (Depending on the age level of the class) At the end of the hour we come back to the circle for a closing prayer. It is at this time that we also recite the Golden Rule, John 3:16 and pray the Lord’s Prayer.

The first Sunday of the month we have a birthday celebration at the end of the hour for all the students whose birthdays fall during that month.
Anyone who wishes to sign up to bring snack please speak to one of the teachers.

On the last Sunday of the month the children attend Church with their families for a “family friendly Sunday Service,” lead by our Pastor’

Twice a year we “take over” a Sunday church service.

In December the Sunday School presents a Christmas Program during the Sunday Service This always includes the children performing a Nativity play and concludes with a Birthday Party for Jesus and a visit from Santa Claus in the church hall.

In June we have a Children’s Sunday where the Sunday School Students take over the entire service. Each child is recognized for their special gifts and we close for the summer.

Please check the calendar for specific dates.

We hope your child/youth will join us for Sunday School at the Holmes United Methodist Church.

Questions or concerns please call the church at 878-4923 or send your questions or comments by using the Contact us form and click on “Sunday School”.
